Spring Brings Something New
It is spring in the Southern Hemisphere and with it comes the promise of new beginnings. For some Christians the concept of “new" puts a chill in their spine. It is true that when confronted with the “new", it is not always like spring. Sometimes it is rocky and full of turmoil – and broken expectations may abound. Our fear of the “new" is often linked with the trauma of past experiences. Instead of allowing God to be the source of our blessed “new", we reject everything – we stay satisfied with with “old" and “stale".
When looking at men and women for the “new" and “fresh" we will always find a disappointing outlook. In Ecclesiastes 1: 9-11 NLT, the writer makes an interesting observation stating:
“History merely repeats itself. It has all been done before. Nothing under the sun is truly new. Sometimes people say, “Here is something new!” But actually it is old; nothing is ever truly new. We don’t remember what happened in the past, and in future generations, no one will remember what we are doing now."
This observation from the human standpoint is true… When we look at humanity as the pinnacle of existence then we will come to the same conclusions as the writer from Ecclesiastes. Humanity has no power of its own to truly offer anything “new" and “refreshing".
When God is brought into the picture than we can re-examine the possibilities of “new" with a clear perspective. We can begin to understand that if we look for the “new" it must be found in the Lord and the Refreshing He brings through the Holy Spirit. Everything remains boring or the same to us outside of the Lord. There is a promise that God makes to us… spoken by Isaiah the prophet of God saying:
“But forget all that—it is nothing compared to what I am going to do. For I am about to do something new. See, I have already begun! Do you not see it? I will make a pathway through the wilderness. I will create rivers in the dry wasteland".
Here the Lord says forget the former things. He is the Lord of all, creator of all. He has an amazing capacity for creating the “new" we are seeking in life.
Let's reiterate, the Lord says:
- He will begin a new thing…
- He has already started it…
- He is making fresh pathways…
- He is giving rivers in the desert…
The Lord is the initiator of the “new" and we can embrace it or we can reject it. We who are limited, created (and creative) beings, project our inferiority onto God who is not inferior at all. He is a billions upon, a billion upon, a billions times far more superior in creativity and intelligence than we will ever be. We need a godly mind-shift in us concerning the “new" that God wants to do within us.
If we don't have this mind-shift, we will resist the work of the Holy Spirit and grieve Him upon every turn. The “new" work that the Lord is doing, needs to start within us. We will never see righteous living and action without the promised renewal of the Holy Spirit within.
2 Corinthians 5: 17 NLT says,
“This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun".
To belong to Christ, means to live surrendered to Him. He is the one who baptises with fire. Which means He is the giver of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the regenerative agent of God. If we say we belong to Christ, and if we say we are His children then we are saying we are surrendering to the “NEW" which God wants to bring into our lives.
There have been men and women who claim to carry “apostolic" and “prophetic" mantles (callings). We encourage you to be cautious of and always test such claims; because with these claimants, comes a powerful need / drive to prove themselves to everyone with signs and wonders.
While we believe the Lord is still doing wonderful works of a miraculous nature there have been warnings in the scriptures about the false apostles and prophets who bring lying signs and wonders, who open spiritual gates within people; so that they don't experience the “newness" of God but rather are influenced by the age-old enemy of our souls through demonic activity. Remember, not a single person can promise you “newness". No matter how convinced they are of the “Apostolic / Prophetic" mantle upon them. A true minister of the Gospel will always point people straight to Jesus – He is the one who gives us the Holy Spirit, the agent of renewal and regeneration.
The “new" will not only be limited to our personal regeneration, but ultimately to the entire universe as well. There is coming a time where King Jesus will “make all things new“. Once again our superior and incredible God gives us the assurance of His promise to us of a future filled with newness and freshness. There is nothing stale, old or boring about Him or His Kingdom. Revelation 22:5 & 6 NLT says,
And the one sitting on the throne said, “Look, I am making everything new!” And then he said to me, “Write this down, for what I tell you is trustworthy and true.” And he also said, “It is finished! I am the Alpha and the Omega—the Beginning and the End".
We can live for all eternity and God's ever expansive and creative Spirit will fill our universe with all the wonder that can be mustered for His glory.
Should we allow our past disappointment with people to cloud our vision of the Glory that God wants to reveal through us?
Or should we open our hearts to the King of kings, to be fully surrendered to Him and the “new" He wants to impart to us?

There is a valued gift that God wants to impart to all His people.
It is a gift that operates solely from a platform of love, charity and compassion.
Hospitality is something that is losing traction with the Christian world on a grand scale. Jesus saw this coming almost 2000 years ago. He explained in Matthew 24:12 concerning the last days of mankind, that the “love of many would grow cold”. Our decrease in love is directly correlated to the decrease in hospitality. When we are willing to make ourselves vulnerable toward others, even at the risk of being hurt, offended or crucified, we draw closer to doing the will of God. This is what it means to be a blessing to others…
Timothy is told to fan the flame of God’s gift within Him (2 Timothy 1:6) so that the gift he was given by the Holy Spirit would not lie dormant or become useless. Likewise, Spirit inspired love is not stirred by words and good intentions – but by acts of godly hospitality.
- Jesus Christ demonstrated the greatest act of hospitality to the world. He gave his life for us. His death and resurrection opened the doors of the Father’s home to those who believe in Him (John 3:16).
When Christian’s neglect the Biblical imperative to show love through hospitality; we risk losing out with the Lord in so many different ways. Our greatest risk is the curse that comes because we neglect godly hospitality on life's journey. “Curse” sounds harsh, but the words of Jesus are very plain about what happens when we fail to show godly hospitality.
In Matthew 25:31-46 we read of the judgement of Jesus Christ between the “Sheep” and the “goats”. Both sheep and goats share similar diets, and some may look similar and even sound similar but both behave differently and are valued differently by farmers.
Likewise we have many people who identify as Christians but Jesus will determine who are His by those who show love and godly hospitality (the sheep) and which of those show little or no love and hospitality (the goats).
The sheep are blessed by the Lord because they show godly hospitality and in turn, are shown divine hospitality in the Father’s house.
The goats ARE CURSED and are condemned to hell because they refused to show the hospitality of the Lord.
There is an old saying that “Charity begins at home”. This is a great place to exercise godly hospitality and an excellent way to grow in Christian ministry. Learn to show godly hospitality from home: Show it to the strangers, the foreigners, the sinners, the saints, the rejected and the social outcasts. This is what Jesus did to make His Kingdom accessible to the lost and spiritually disenfranchised.
This is a serious matter, may we regard what we read in the scriptures in the context of godly hospitality as a “life and death matter”.

Excerpt take from the Study “God’s Remedy For the Victim Spirit"
The enemy continues his worldwide attack against God’s people on a daily basis; using an arsenal of tools and powers available to him.
Being ignorant of Satan’s devices is no longer a luxury afforded to believers. Even our more conservative spiritual family are voicing their concerns regarding manifestations of demonic powers on a global scale. There is a genuine concern for the safety of people; some speak of the feeling of hopelessness and powerlessness that resides in their hearts against these things.
The Victim Spirit is a real force at work and it threatens people of all ages, race and Christian creeds. It paralyses people from actively engaging in the warfare that is waged on the earth, in the heavens and for the hearts of people everywhere. A Spirit of Timidity or Victim Spirit is a demon that victimises people, traumatises them and causes them to fall into self-pity and worthlessness. He imprints upon them feelings of depression and hope is easily deferred as we confront its condemnation head-on. This as you will already know, it is not anything new, as you witness it every day.
The Victim spirit is particularly active in seasons where new growth is about to bud in our relationship with the Lord. As the Lord prepares us for greater responsibility and higher calling, our hearts are arrested by the attack of this spirit – a spontaneous spiritual “fear of heights” overcomes us.
The Holy Spirit of God is sent to us as a powerful comforter to erase all condemnation. Jesus Christ while on earth promised that the Father would send another comforter who would comfort and strengthen God’s people. The Holy Spirit would impart into us LOVE, POWER and a SOUND MIND…….
